Absence seizures usually occur in children between ages 4 to 14, but it's possible to have an absence seizure at any age. Absence seizures are most common in children from age 4 to 14. The clinical and electroencephalographic (eeg) features of absence seizures in children were evaluated using eeg frequency modulation radiotelemetry and videotape monitoring.
Other causes of seizures in children can include high fever (called febrile seizures), infection or traumatic head injury.
Most often it starts between the ages of 4 and 15 years. Absence seizures most commonly affect children from 5 to 9 years old. A child with repeated absence seizures is said to have childhood absence epilepsy or petit mal epilepsy. Your child's mouth or face may move, or eyes may blink.
